About Yesenia Espinal
Yesenia Espinal is a higher education data and analytics leader with over a decade of experience helping institutions leverage data to strengthen enrollment strategy, improve student success, and support informed decision-making. She most recently served as Associate Vice President for Data Analytics at Howard University, where she led the Office of Data Analytics and played a key role in the university’s Workday Student implementation. In this role, she oversaw reporting strategy, data validation, and enterprise analytics, ensuring data accuracy and alignment across institutional systems. As the Founder and Principal Consultant of Espinal Advisory & Analytics, LLC, Yesenia partners with colleges and universities to enhance their analytics capabilities, support ERP implementations, and develop data-driven strategies that advance institutional effectiveness. She is an active member of NACUBO and the Association for Institutional Research (AIR), and is deeply committed to using data to drive strategic decision-making and improve student outcomes.

After more than twenty years in higher education—and the privilege of serving the Howard University community—I am excited to launch Espinal Advisory & Analytics, LLC, a consulting practice dedicated to helping organizations transform data into strategic action. Through this work, I partner with institutions and organizations to strengthen both the strategic and technical foundations of their data environments.
Data Strategy & Analytics Expertise
On the analytics side, my work focuses on building strong reporting and data capabilities from the ground up. This includes developing reliable data foundations, improving data collection practices, performing data validation and cleaning, conducting meaningful analysis, and creating clear visualizations and reporting tools that support informed decision-making.
ERP & Enterprise Systems Experience
My background also includes extensive experience supporting enterprise system implementations. At Howard University, I served in key roles during the Workday Student implementation, including Reporting Lead, Data Validation Lead, and Student Core Support Lead. This experience deepened my focus on audit, compliance, and reconciliation reporting, ensuring data integrity across systems through accurate validation, matching processes, and alignment with institutional policies and procedures. Today, I provide project-based support for institutions implementing or optimizing systems such as Workday and Ellucian, helping reduce operational strain on internal teams during high-demand periods and ensuring continuity in critical reporting functions.

A core part of my approach is the belief that data alone does not drive change—insight and storytelling do. My strength lies in translating complex data into clear, actionable narratives that help leaders understand what the data means and how to use it to drive impact.
Mentorship & Professional Commitment
The “Advisory” component of my practice is intentional. Beyond consulting, I am committed to mentorship and coaching for high school students, college students, and emerging professionals—particularly those pursuing careers in data analytics, technology, and leadership.
Professional Engagement
I am grateful to collaborate with organizations that have played an important role in my professional journey, including the Association for Institutional Research (AIR) and the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO). I currently serve as Chair of the Nominations and Elections Committee at AIR, and I value opportunities to contribute to the broader higher education community through service and collaboration.
